Will the Ping i20 Irons Suit Me
by Andrew
(Ireland)
Hi.
I'm a fifteen year old boy and I play off of a handicap of 20. I currently use Taylormade Burner 2.0 irons and I'm a pretty good striker of a ball.
I want to change my irons as I find the long irons hard to control. I like the look of the Ping i20 irons and I would like to get them but I don't know whether they would suit me or not?
If not which would you recommend for me?
Thanks
Andrew
Andrew,
Thanks for the question on what set of irons would best fit you. As for the PING i20's they are very good in terms of feel and forgiveness and would be an excellent iron for you to try.
Considering you're 15 and if you continue to play the game, any irons similar to the PING i20's will be a good option. The reason I believe that is due to you becoming better at the game and becoming less reliable on a cavity back/perimeter weighted iron like your Burner 2.0's.
Whatever irons that you choose, be sure to factor in your ability to work the ball. As you get better you will want a set of irons that allows you to work the ball both ways. Most game improvement irons are designed to decrease your ability to work the ball.
If there is one set I would personally recommend that you at least try is the new TaylorMade RocketBladez Tour irons. These irons are designed for workability and forgiveness. As a matter of fact there are several players on Tour playing with these irons.
Whichever irons you choose be sure to get club fitted. If you are not correctly fit for your set of irons then it doesn't really matter if you have the best set in the world since you will be more inclined to develop unwanted compensations in your swing.
